Leakage of Consumer Dollars from Union County discussion on Oct. 9

“Leakage of Consumer Dollars” discussion is set for  Wednesday, Oct. 9 at the new Union County Courthouse.

We are excited to welcome as our guest speaker for the monthly meeting of the Union County Economic Development Corporation, Susan Odum with U of I Extension Service. The meeting will be Wednesday, October 9, 9:00 am, in the ‘Community Room’ of the new Union County Courthouse, Jonesboro. Susan will be speaking on her research into the “Leakage of Consumer Dollars” out of Union County. Based upon her recently completed study, “Retail Market Place Profile Study”, Susan has discovered that this “leakage” of dollars runs in the 100’s of millions of dollars annually. In addition to the huge impact this has on local businesses, this spending of consumer dollars outside our area is a major reason for our higher than average unemployment.

Following Susan’s presentation, we will be looking at options to try to stem this huge tide of  “leakage of consumer dollars” out of our County. There are a number of business organizations in the County dedicated to the promotion of economic development, such as the Union County Economic Development Corporation, the Union County Chamber of Commerce, Union County Women in Business, the Cobden Community & Business Association, and the Alto Pass Business Association. Working together, we can have a positive impact on this challenging problem.
