2013 LEAA High School Press Release
            Little Egypt Arts Association is sponsoring the 7th.  Annual High School Art Competition. fThe  students work will hang at the gallery on the square in Marion, Jan. 11 thru Feb 17.
LEAA  invited 26 high school art teachers from Southern Illinois to participate in this competition. Each teacher was able to submit up to 5 works of art from their students. The teachers may submit one of their own artworks for display only. There are no size or media restrictions. This year our judges were Catherine Howell and Betty Jesse.  The outstanding students’ work made placing the ribbons difficult. There are numerous special awards being given as well as ribbon awards.
            The public is invited to view the students’ artwork on display at the LEAA gallery on the square in Marion through Feb. 17. The closing reception will be conducted at 2pm when the students will receive their ribbons and various awards, including monetary as well as art supplies that have been donated through the generosity of many patrons and businesses in the area.
            The High School Competition is one way LEAA endeavors to provide leadership and direction to promote and expand opportunities for creative, artistic expression in Southern Illinois.

There are two ribbons for ‘Best Of Show’:
 ‘Best of Show’ was awarded to: Katelyn Ryder-Harrisburg and Alyvia Payne-Marion; they were sponsored by Harry L. Crisp family in honor of Rosemary Crisp, a patron of the arts.
Peoples Choice is selected by the public voting for the piece they like best. The one receiving  the most votes is awarded $50. Sponsored by LEAA. Voting will end Feb. 15.
Tim Barnfield Memorial Award was awarded to Daphne Whiting-Marion
There are 5 ribbons given for each of the following places along with various other awards:
1st. place ribbons were awarded to: Alyx Williford-Benton , Sara Mataya-Johnston City, , Justin Smock-Harrisburg, Katelyn Ryder-Harrisburg and Tessa Shevlin-Marion.
2nd place ribbons were awarded to: Emily Ramsey-Anna-Jonesboro, Harrison Thomas-Carterville, Lucy Odam-Herrin, Megan Benitone-Herrin, and Adrianna Uribe-Anna-Jonesboro
3rd place ribbons were awarded to: Katie Malnar- Anna-Jonesboro, Daphne Whiting-Marion, Harrison Thomas-Carterville, Katelyn Ryder-Harrisburg, and Amberley Evans-Goreville.
There were numerous ‘Special Awards’ given by patrons in appreciation for the creative talent of these students. These awards are given at various times durring the exhibit and vary with each sponsor. The recipients are:
  Jennifer Skinner and Harrison Thomas-Carterville, Mason Bishop-Goreville, Alex Smith-Johnston City, Katelyn Ryder-Harrisburg, Richelle Nelson, Shelby Moore, Emilee Key, Ebony Bardo, Tessa Shevlin, Daniel Robinson - Marion, Jacob Richardson, Autumn Pritchett, Brianna Bishop- Eldorado, Kortney Young-Herrin, Miranda Brookskier- Vienna.

Participating schools are: Carterville, Goreville, Marion, Johnston City, Benton, Harrisburg, Eldorado, Anna-Jonesboro, Herrin, Cobden and Vienna High School.
