Art Conference at SIU Carbondale Friday, March 1
The South Regional Council of the Illinois Art Education Association will be holding a Conference for teachers at SIU-C on Friday March 1.
Information on the Conference can be accessed on SIU's Continuing Education site.
Artist Jay Ryan, silk screen printer will give a Visiting Artist lecture at SIU Museum Auditorium on Thursday, Friday 28th at 7:00.
There will be a workshop and presentation by Sandra Bacon of Golden Paints on Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 which is open to the community. Charge for the workshop is $25.00. Sandy will be demonstrate the use of the new Golden grounds and open acrylics and participants will be working with these during the workshop. Supplies will be provided.
Participants will need to bring their own acrylic brushes. More information is available from Paulette Aronson at 893-882 or by email at artteacher37@htomail.com.
anthill gallery in Cobden begins fifth season
anthill gallery & vintage curiosities has begun its fifth season in the Village of Cobden featuring the original art and craft of sixty Southern Illinois artisans. Larger paintings and photographs are exhibited at the Yellow Moon Cafe at 110 North Front Street, just up the sidewalk.
anthill gallery is open Sundays and Wednesdays, Noon to 4 p.m.; Thursdays and Fridays, Noon to 6 p.m.; and Saturdays 10 a.m to 6 p.m.
The season's first exhibition event will be announced soon.

Two Local Artists's Paintings on Display at Thai Taste
Two well-known local artists, Jan York and Nina Kovar, are displaying their paintings at Thai Taste throughout the month of February. Kovar, the present owner of Visions Gallery in Makanda, and York, who previously owned the gallery, paint large scale wall art using oils and acrylics. Thai Taste is located at 100 S. Illinois Ave. in Carbondale.

2013 LEAA High School Press Release
Little Egypt Arts
Association is sponsoring the 7th.
Annual High School Art Competition. fThe students work will hang at the gallery on the
square in Marion, Jan. 11 thru Feb 17.
LEAA invited 26 high school art teachers from
Southern Illinois to participate in this competition. Each teacher was able to
submit up to 5 works of art from their students. The teachers may submit one of
their own artworks for display only. There are no size or media restrictions.
This year our judges were Catherine Howell and Betty Jesse. The outstanding students’ work made placing
the ribbons difficult. There are numerous special awards being given as well as
ribbon awards.
The public
is invited to view the students’ artwork on display at the LEAA gallery on the
square in Marion through Feb. 17. The closing reception will be conducted at
2pm when the students will receive their ribbons and various awards, including
monetary as well as art supplies that have been donated through the generosity
of many patrons and businesses in the area.
The High
School Competition is one way LEAA endeavors to provide leadership and
direction to promote and expand opportunities for creative, artistic expression
in Southern Illinois.

There are two ribbons for ‘Best Of Show’:
‘Best of Show’ was awarded to: Katelyn Ryder-Harrisburg and Alyvia
Payne-Marion; they were sponsored by Harry L. Crisp family in honor of
Rosemary Crisp, a patron of the arts.
Peoples
Choice is selected by the public voting for the piece they like
best. The one receiving the most votes
is awarded $50. Sponsored by LEAA. Voting will end Feb. 15.

along with various other awards:

were awarded to: Emily Ramsey-Anna-Jonesboro, Harrison Thomas-Carterville, Lucy
Odam-Herrin, Megan Benitone-Herrin, and Adrianna Uribe-Anna-Jonesboro

place ribbons were awarded to: Katie Malnar- Anna-Jonesboro,
Daphne Whiting-Marion, Harrison Thomas-Carterville, Katelyn Ryder-Harrisburg, and
Amberley Evans-Goreville.
There were numerous ‘Special
Awards’ given by patrons in appreciation for the creative talent of these
students. These awards are given at various times durring the exhibit and vary
